Extent of human disturbance

Hobbs and Hopkins (1990) described 4 main consequences of human modification of the landscape determined by the extent of human disturbance. These are:

  • complete removal of vegetation

  • replacement of vegetation

  • utilisation

  • conservation

The effects of disturbance can range from small to large-scale destruction. The extent of modification influences ecosystem processes found within the land use types.
