Instigators of change

Climate and geomorphology are the two main instigators of natural change.

  • Climate - affects organisms by temperature and water availability

  • Geomorphology - affects the form of the land surface

Geomorphic processes operate differently in different climates, affecting the way the landscape evolves. Seven processes that influence the evolution of landforms are:

  • plate tectonics

  • erosion

  • deposition of materials

  • glaciation

  • establishment of plants and animals

  • soil development

  • disturbance
