What is Remote Sensing?

For centuries people have realised that it is advantageous to collect information about the landscape from a distance above the earth's surface. Originally people would have climbed to the highest peak to assess the land below. Today remote sensing is used to capture landscape information and image processing is used to translate the information captured into useable data or maps.
