Integrating people and technology Acquiring a GIS means that one has to consider technical
issues surrounding which hardware and software to choose, and also make
decisions regarding functional requirements and about factors such as
performance standards. Despite the often difficult decisions surrounding hardware
and software requirements, GIS implementation failures tend to be due
more to people problems than technical ones (Aranoff,
1989), so the integration of people and technology has to be carefully
considered when setting up a GIS.
