If
you are unfamiliar with ArcGIS
If you have experienced ArcGIS
Desktop GIS run on desktop
computers. They have mapping, analysis and data manipulation functionality.
An example of a widely used
desktop GIS ArcGIS 9.3.
Students who are new to GIS and have not used ArcGIS before should take a look at ESRI's Virtual Campus free modules 'Learning ArcGIS Desktop ' course or you can request an access code from your lecturer.

This will give you:
To do the exercise components
you must have ArcView or ArcGIS installed on your computer but you can just run through
the background reading with normal Internet connections.
You can try the full module,
including exercises, on the computers in the GIS/RS lab at CDU which have ArcGIS installed or you can request a copy of the software.. Please e-mail me to
arrange this.
Note that this section is an optional extra, for you to increase
your knowledge if you want to and have the time.
If you already have some basic ArcGIS experience, and have the time, you could take a look at some of the other free modules. One useful course to supplement this unit if you have already completed ENV208/ENV508 or SES220 is the 'Creating and Integrating data for Natural Resource Applications' course.
