Components

The three main components of a GIS are:

• Computer hardware that includes a computer, network, digitiser, plotter, printer, CD-ROM
  
  
• Sets of applications software which can be divided into five functional groups:
  
  
  • data input and verification
    
  • data storage and database management
    
  • data output and presentation
    
  • data transformation
    
  • interaction with the user
    
    
• A proper organisational context
