Different scales of operation

Each process or species in the landscape works on its own particular space and time framework, and different landscape features operate at varying scales, so different scales are needed to analyse the different features present in a landscape. The implication of this is that the scale at which landscapes exhibit patchiness is important to understanding ecological processes (Turner et al., 1991).
