Species effects

Species distribution and abundance respond to changing spatial patterns caused by fragmentation. Associated with fragmentation are increases in isolation, the number of generalists, the number of multihabitat species, the number of edge species, the number of exotic species, nest predation, and extinction rate. There are also associated decreases in the dispersal of interior specialists, large home range species and richness of interior species (Forman, 1995).
