Environmental Change in Marine Systems

In this module, we will examine aspects of environmental change in marine systems.

The material in this module is organised around four topics:

  • Introduction
    • Key features of the marine environment
    • Differences between marine and terrestrial/aquatic systems
  • Stress
    • Stresses in marine environments
    • Organism responses to stress
  • Disturbance
    • Disturbance in marine environments
    • Community responses to disturbance
  • Climate change
    • Change in frequency and intensity of disturbance
    • Sea level rise

This first topic in the module examines key features of the marine environment and then looks at differences between marine and terrestrial/aquatic systems.
