GIS functionality
uses the spatial and non-spatial attribute data in the database to answer questions
about the real world (Aranoff,
1989). A typical GIS application looks at 'what if' type scenarios, ie.
the implications of proposed activities at certain locations.
This sort
of functionality makes it a particularly useful natural resource manager for
applications such as performing Environmental Impact Assessments.
