How is RS used?

Natural resource mapping

Remote sensing is commonly used for natural resource mapping of wide areas. Aerial photographs have been used to generate topographic maps and most land cover and soil maps.

Measurements

Remote sensing is particularly useful for collecting measurements of landscape features.

Data collection

Remotely sensed data are usually not the only source data used; field observations and ground truthing are used to substantiate remotely sensed information.
