Remote
sensing is commonly used for natural resource mapping of wide areas. Aerial
photographs have been used to generate topographic
maps and most land cover and soil maps.
Remote
sensing is particularly useful for collecting measurements of landscape features.
Remotely
sensed data are usually not the only source data used; field observations and
ground truthing are used to substantiate remotely sensed information.
