Types of error

Absolute Error

• Position on Earth's surface
• Measured in distance units (eg meters)
• Needed to reference data layers to one another

Relative Error

• Relative size and position of things
• Measured as ratio

Topological Error

• connections and other spatial relationships of objects in the database
• Measured as %
• eg topology of lines and polygons representing objects such as rivers

Referential Error

• Labels and values of objects
• Measured as %
• eg names of cities on a map
