Where did landscape ecology come from? Since the Second World War landscape ecology has been developing as a distinct discipline. It arose from the concept that living and physical systems interact at different spatial and temporal scales, to form the composition and structure of the landscape as we see it today. The landscape has now become the central focus in many areas of environmental management eg wildlife management, forestry, geography, planning, and from this line of thinking the discipline of landscape ecology has emerged. Today landscape ecology is a science that integrates - biological, physical and social aspects of nature and considers the interdependence of all factors that go towards making up the landscape.
