Spatial attributes
of spatial processes
Each spatial
process has its own distinctive spatial attributes.
- Perforation,
dissection and fragmentation can affect a whole area or just a patch within
it, while shrinkage and attrition apply just to individual patches or corridors.
- Patch
number or density of patches can increase with dissection and fragmentation
whereas this decreases with attrition.
- Average
patch size decreases in cases of perforation, dissection, fragmentation and
shrinkage, and increases where attrition takes place because small patches
are likely to disappear.
- Connectivity
usually decreases with dissection and fragmentation.
- Boundary
length between original and new land types increase in cases of perforation,
dissection and fragmentation and decrease with shrinkage and attrition.
