The issues are a central part of Contested Knowledges. They provide
you with the chance to explore some important issues in resource
management in the light of the Key Questions.
The aim is to explore how these issues are understood within 'western
culture' and then to seek how these issues are addressed within
other cultures and from different knowledge bases.
There are ten issues open for investigation. Click on the word
to explore each issue further. Use the icon to enter the discussion
on each issue.
Once you have investigated the concept of 'wilderness' and once
you are familiar with the material discussed in the Key Questions
text, you need to begin exploring one of these issues as part of
your major assessment for this unit.
The idea is that you apply what you have learned about the contestation
of knowledge to the issue you choose to explore and to explore another
issue to assist someone else in the major assessment. See the assessments
information in the office to find out
how you are assessed on your exploration of the issues.
You need to investigate one issue in detail as the basis for your
major assignment and one other issue as the basis of you minor assessment.
We selected a range of issues that are important in a resource
management context and are likely to be of interest to others doing
this unit from elsewhere.
You will see that in the classroom, there are links which provide
you with an introduction to each of the issues we have decided to
begin with in this unit. We addressed each issue using the Key Questions
so you can imagine that it is important for you to have read the
Key Questions text before you explore your chosen issues
in depth.
We've also provided you with a few key readings to start you off
on your exploration. It's not an exhaustive list though, so you
need to search out resources for yourself to develop your issue
webpage.
You're not on your own here though, remember, because each student
needs to be on the lookout for resources to help the other students
in the class as part of their minor assignment. These will be in
the issue discussion pages as the other students find them and post
them there as part of their assessment.
