    Research interests & activities

Naomi's interests include plant ecology, environmental water requirements of rivers and wetlands, water resource management, aquatic and wetland weeds.

Naomi has worked since 1985 on ecological issues surrounding wetlands, water plants and hydrological issues. The research has centred on ecological problems such as weed invasions, altered water regimes, water quality and nutrient enrichment. Naomi has worked with the NT Government for the last 4 years on environmental flows, specifically drafting a Water Allocation and Assessment Process for the Northern Territory to encourage the sustainable use of water and investigating the environmental water requirements of the major water plant in the Daly River (Vallisneria nana) as part of the Commonwealth's Environmental Flows Initiative. This is one of 5 ecological projects that in September will workshop the outcome of 2 yrs research on the river. Combined recommendations about the quantity and quality of surface and ground water requirements of the Daly River are to be incorporated into Water Allocation Plans under Regional Natural Resource Management Strategies.

Naomi joined the Charles Darwin University as a researcher and lecturer in 2002.
