Patch geometry

Differences in patch size and area affect species abundance. They also affect factors such as energy and the presence and flow of materials and nutrients.

Differences in patch number and configuration are also important in influencing the presence and abundance of species.

Patches

The importance of these factors is discussed in Section 1 Landscape function and process.
