Welcome
The purpose of this unit is to examine environmental problems that have become issues globally, nationally and locally, and to understand the root causes of these environmental issues. We will investigate the ecological services concept, that is, that the environment provides a range of ecological goods and services that sustain life on earth. We will investigate the seriousness of various environmental issues, the range of options to address there issuses and the role of technology as a possible solution.
This unit is organised into 4 moudules:
- Module 1: Ecosystem Services concept
- Module 2: Pouplation and Resource Consumption
- Module 3: Population and Environmental Impact
- Module 4: Environment and Society
Successful completion of this unit should enable you to:
- understand some of the causes of the major global and regional environmental issues and problems, and identify some possible solutions
- evaluate the role of policy and policymaking bodies in both causing and solving environmental problems
- evaluate the role of technology in both causing and solving environmental problems
- use logical organised argument in discussion about environmental issues.
