Red Banded Mango Caterpillar
Introduction
The red banded mango caterpillar (RBMC) is widespread through out Southeast Asia, including Papua New Guinea.
Control of RBMC is difficult because little is known about its biology. It has not been successfully eradicated anywhere in the world.
It has been recorded in the Torres Straight Islands and Cape York, where a quarantine zone has been established to contain the sites of known occurrences. So far it has not been located in the mango growing areas to the south of the quarantine zone.
This case study underpins assessment items 2 and 3, which focus on the development of a community engagement plan for the management of a potential incidence of Red Banded Mango Caterpillar in north Queensland.
Please refer to the ENV401 Assessment Guide booklet for full details of these assessment items.
