Using the communication areas

All communication now operates via the learnline discussion boards, so you shouldn't anything but your CDU log on details to access this.

Any links to the discussion boards will link back to the learnline site for Contested Knowledges, but unfortunately, the links won't allow us to make that link directly to the discussion boards, so you will then need to click on the links in the red panel on the left hand side of your computer screen.

  1. Notices
Use the noticeboard to contact the lecturer or other students on unit-related housekeeping issue.

  2. Tutorial Discussion
Use the tutorial discussion to explore issues related to the contect of the unit and to post information required about your major assessment.

  3. Issues Discussions
this is a separate area which links to the site where the resources relating to the 10 issues are stored. this will require passowrd access to add or modify.
  4. Glossary
This is an incomplete glossary of terms and multiple definitions. You are expected to contribute to the glossary by adding new terms and/or definitions.

Click on an existing term to add your definition to those already listed. Click on "add a new term" to add a term and definition, which then becomes available for others to build on.

  5. Bibliography
You are expected to add references to this bibliography as you source and use information for your assessments and web pages.

To add a reference , you will need to create a new wiki site and forward the information to your lecturer so that s/he can add it to the list.

Rollovers
In the Office and Classroom certain images have hidden boxes containing additional information. These are called 'rollovers'. When you roll your mouse over the images, text may appear containing a phrase or references which will further enhance your understanding of the term.

Embedded links
When a word or phrase is underlined and appears within the body of text it can be clicked on to take you to more information. Once you have visited this information, the underlined word/s will change colour from red to pale blue.

Moving around the site

The Contested Knowledges site contains two sections -

  1. The Office
This section contains information which you will require as a student enrolled in this unit.

You access the information by rolling your mouse over the different images in the office and clicking on the image for more information. The icons at the top of each subsequent page will lead you to other unit information.

  2. The Classroom
This section is where the bulk of the online study material resides.

Access this information by rolling your mouse over the different images in the classroom, and clicking on the image to be taken to the area. The icons at the top of each subsequent page will take you back to the Office, Classroom or to any of the other areas applicable to the classroom.

To obtain an overview of the site at any time click on the sitemap which is included in the "Your Tools" pull down menu, or click on the globe in the Office.
