Print Resources
There are three resources which you will need to make the most
of this units. All three resources are now available through the
Learnline site for this unit. You will not receive print materials
this semester.
A unit information booklet
A Key Questions text
A set of readings
Unit information booklet
This booklet introduces you to the unit and outlines how the materials
fit together. The Office you are now in is an online version of
this.

Key Questions text
The Key Questions text is one of the important resources
available to you to develop your ideas for this unit. We figured
that it would be easier (and probably cheaper for you) if we produced
this in print form so that you could read it and refer back to it
regularly during the course of the unit.
Key Questions is an introduction to the underpinning
theory behind Contested Knowledges. We have produced it to provide
support and some guidance in the investigation of the issues presented
in the unit. The key questions are the four questions we use to
structure discussion throughout the unit and the structure we want
you to use when you begin addressing the issues for your assessment.
The four questions will hopefully guide you in sourcing, describing
and presenting your information in a coherent form.
The questions are:
1. What is at stake?
2. What is the status quo?
3. What are the alternatives?
4. What happens when different knowledge systems speak to each
other?
By reading the Key Questions text you should be able
to get a good idea of what each of these questions is trying to
ask.
The Key Questions text looks in more depth at each
question, helps to explain the background to each one and provides
some useful examples. Once you have looked over the rest of the
materials, the Readings are probably a good place to come back to
start your study.
The discussions about the key questions in this resource is linked
to your next print resource - the book of readings.

Readings
This booklet includes important readings for this unit. The selection
of readings has been carefully made and only the very important
readings have been included in this booklet.
Keep this book handy and read the relevant articles when you are
referred to them through the course of the unit. This book of readings
aims to provide you with a basic source of reference materials.
You will need to look further afield and search for useful material
yourself, particularly in research material for your major
project.
