Yolŋu Studies at CDU
Yolŋu
from Arnhemland and other people from around Australian and the world
study Yolŋu languages and culture at Charles Darwin University.
We work with, and
under
the guidance and approval of the Advisors to the Yolŋu Studies Program.
The Advisors live in Yolŋu towns and homelands
communities and include Djuwandayŋu, Yiŋiya, Banyawarra,
Nirrpurandji, Maratja, and Dhäŋgal.
Students learn Yolŋu culture and kinship as well as language. It is
impossible to learn one without the other. Non-Yolŋu students start by
learning about
Gupapuyŋu language and culture. Later they learn about the life, land
and
language of other groups of people, such as Dhaŋu, Djaŋu, Djinba and
Dhuwal. Yolŋu students study their own languages and connections to the
Yolŋu world.
Study options
Yolŋu studies can be studied face to
face at Casuarina
campus, and is also available externally.
NB: The closing date for
Applications into the Graduate Certificate in Yolŋu Studies often ends
in early December.
We strongly advise prospective students to enrol well before this date,
as
it may not be extended.
