About the image text - Yolngu Font

Yolŋu languages are written using special characters and (glottal stop). To view these characters with your computer you need YM fonts.

The extra characters required for writing Yolŋu languages are highlighted on the image above. Note: The 'long a' (ä) is located with shift + 6 keystroke, while the capital 'long a' (%) is on the shift + 5 keystroke.

Download YM fonts

Special cross platform fonts have been developed for working in Yolŋu languages. One can be downloaded from this site free of charge. It is called AYolngu CDU.

Installing YM fonts

To read some instructions on how to install fonts on your computer, click on the platform you are using:

Windows

  1. Right click on the font link (AYolCDU.ttf).
  2. Select 'Save Target as' (for Internet Explorer users) or 'Save Link as' (for Netscape users).
  3. Locate your fonts folder. It should be under "c:\ windows\fonts".
  4. Click Save.
  5. Restart your computer.

Macintosh
Installing Truetype Yolŋu matha font on your Mac

  1. Download the Stuffit file(A_Yolngu_CDU.tt.sit) to your desktop.
  2. Double-click on the file to uncompress.
  3. Find your "fonts" folder on your hard drive. It should be under the "System Folder".
  4. Select the font file (A Yolngu CDU.tt) on your desktop and copy it to your "fonts" folder.
  5. Restart your computer.
