Blue Trumpet Vine - Thunbergia species
Thunbergia
is a vigorous, rapidly spreading vine which and smothers native vegetation
to the canopy. It is typically found in tropical lowland rainforest in
far north Queensland, especially along watercourses. In Queensland 4 species
have been identified as having the potential to cause serious economic,
environmental or social impact.
Until recently Thunbergia grandiflora and T. laurifolia
were promoted and sold in Queensland as attractive garden plants and became
widespread in Queensland gardens. Like many such garden plants they ‘escaped’
and began causing considerable environmental damage.
