Reading and Research

Practically every university course will require you to do some reading as part of your study. The precise quantity of reading will vary from course to course, subject to subject, module to module.

As a student you will do more than just find information. In reading that information you will be interpreting what the author has written. You will be making sense of the words on the page. You too will be making meaning. Your scope for making meaning will vary according to:

  • The subject area
  • The types of texts that you will be expected to read
  • The level of difficulty of the texts that you will be expected to read
  • Your ability to decode the words on the page.

These issues will in turn affect your ability to read productively and effectively.
