Spores | |
Spores are formed when the diploid spore-forming cells undergo meiosis. Meiosis produces haploid cells; therefore, the spores must be haploid. In the plants that produce different-sized spores, the large spores are called 'megaspores' and go on to form female gametophytes; the small spores are called 'microspores' and go on to form male gametophytes. |
